Hot Off the Press: Conscious Capitalism Philosopher’s Note

By Published On: October 9, 2026

Heroic just published a new Philosopher’s Note on Conscious Capitalism: Liberating the Heroic Spirit of Business by John Mackey and Raj Sisodia. It takes about 20 minutes to read, and it condenses the heart of the book. I’d like you to read it this week.

Michael Balchan, Heroic’s CEO, wrote it after attending the Conscious Capitalism CEO Summit in September. Heroic founder Brian Johnson gave him the opportunity to write this one. I’m excited about it for a personal reason: it shows how Conscious Capitalism and Heroic fit together, and that fit is the foundation of what I’m launching.

I’m writing this to the entrepreneurs and business leaders who know me and my background. You know the path: I started as a mining engineer and built McIntosh Engineering into a global firm. I then spent 10 years in the Conscious Capitalism movement, co-founding Conscious Capitalism Arizona and helping the movement grow to 50+ chapters worldwide. After that I invested in Heroic Public Benefit Corporation and helped grow the Heroic community in Arizona and beyond.

All of that is coming together in Human Flourishing, and both organizations are mission partners. Human Flourishing is not a competitor to either one. We are magnifying the message of both and building a partnership between them.

The three missions line up:

  • Conscious Capitalism: Elevating humanity through business.
  • Heroic: 51% of humanity flourishing by 2051.
  • Human Flourishing: Every human is born to flourish.

Purpose plus profit gives you a flourishing business and a flourishing humanity.

Why the Note is worth your 20 minutes

I recently reconnected with Timothy Henry, CEO of Conscious Capitalism, and with other longtime supporters of the movement. The question they are working on is how a leader actually builds a conscious business.

Conscious Capitalism does not mean giving anything away. It means running your company for long-term win-win outcomes, where customers, team members, investors, partners and community all come out ahead. The long-term part is hard, because people default to short-term thinking. A leader facing this quarter’s numbers has to hold a ten-year view, and that takes practice and peers.

Conscious Capitalism gives leaders the framework and a community that supports their learning. Heroic combines ancient wisdom, modern science and practical daily tools that leaders can use to run a business on long-term win-win terms. The Note shows you both in 20 minutes, and I expect you will see what I see in it.

October 16: be there at the beginning

On October 16 we launch Human Flourishing, and Michael Balchan will join us. What we are bringing together that day is special. Conscious Capitalism, Heroic and a community of business leaders will be in one room, and the people who join us will be part of the movement from the start.

Read the Note, then come join us.
